His debut studio album, Vinyl, is produced by hit-makers Scott Hendricks and Jimmy Ritchey, and it is scheduled for release on September 30 via his record label, Warner Music Nashville. “I just can’t wait for everybody to hear these new songs. ‘Vinyl’ is also a song on the record too and it’s my favorite that we recorded. It’s on the top of my list of songs,” he said.
The CD features his Top 15 single “I Met A Girl,” which was co-penned by Shane McAnally, Trevor Rosen and country star Sam Hunt. “It feels so good. It just broke into the Top 15 today,” he said. “It really is unbelievable and it makes you want to work even harder.”
Morgan was featured as a Rolling Stone “Country Artist You Need to Know,” “One to Watch” by Nash Country, and he is the sole male country artist featured on Pandora’s “2016 Artists to Watch” list.
He listed the late Tammy Wynette as his greatest female artist of all time. “I would love to sing with Alison Krauss or Brandy Clark,” he said.
Each day, he is motivated by the good Lord and his daughter. “I’m motivated by my daughter each day to get up and do what I’m supposed to do. She is almost five months old,” he said.
A 23-year-old Vicksburg, Mississippi, native, Morgan was inspired musically by such country legends as Merle Haggard, Keith Whitley and George Jones. “Merle Haggard is definitely the biggest reason that I moved to Nashville, and chased this crazy dream of mine. He and George Jones and Keith Whiley are my top three, as far as artists go. It doesn’t get any better than that,” he said.
For Morgan, it is always a privilege each time that he gets to perform on the historic Grand Ole Opry stage. “It has not gotten easier. It is still nerve-wrecking,” he said, with a sweet laugh. “We’ve played at the Opry about 20 times now, and it feels like the first time every time.”
He defined the word success as “working hard.” “You gotta keep on working, since there is always room to grow,” he said.
