Country singer-songwriter Whey Jennings, the grandson of Waylon Jennings, premiered his new music video for his single “If It Wasn’t For the Sinnin’.”
On his creative inspiration behind the song, he said, “This song is special to me because it’s so personal. I wrote it fresh out of rehab where I found a strong faith in God and a renewed faith in myself.”
“I finally had a clear mind and realized that the grace and forgiveness I found came after all I’d done wrong. I find inspiration all around me; life lessons, emotions I’ve felt, but also those closest to me like my wife, my children, my manager, fans, family, and friend,” Jennings said.
The video was directed by Breadwin Deville and was shot at a rustic country resort in Virginia.
Regardings the meaning behind the title, he said, “I chose the title for this song based on what I feel is the most impactful part of the song, something I had actually asked myself at one point: “how could I have ever been forgiven if it wasn’t for the sinnin’?”
Jennings opened up about the song’s music video. “Part of what makes this video special is I think it has a combination of darkness and light that fits the song,” Jennings said.
“I was fortunate to have a bunch of friends and family on set with me that day too. Recording this song was special too,” he continued.
“I was so blessed to have amazing session players like Lonnie Wilson, Kevin ‘Swine’ Grantt, and Scotty Sanders there. We recorded it at Ronnie’s Place which used to be Ronnie Milsap’s studio where my grandfather Waylon Jennings sometimes recorded. That studio had a special feeling and I think it came through in the song,” he elaborated.
For his fans and listeners, he concluded about the song, “If I could leave everyone who listens to this song or watches this video with one final message, it would be that no matter how dark it gets if you look hard enough you can always find the light.”
