We Three talks ‘America’s Got Talent,’ influences, dream duets (Includes interview)

We Three is comprised of Bethany, Joshua, and Manuel (“Manny”). Most recently, they performed “Lifeline” on the competition, where they made it to the live shows.

On performing their original song “Lifeline” on America’s Got Talent, Manny said, “It was probably one of the coolest performances. The stage was really cool, and it was very intimate. Performing that song was really special since it was an intimate and personal song.”

During that performance, country queen Martina McBride served as a guest judge on the show, and she extolled the trio. “That was really cool,” Bethany admitted. “Just having somebody who understands the songwriting process, and her comments were very impactful. That was very cool.”

On their songwriting inspirations, Manny said, “Songs come and go without any warning. Certain things that inspire us include feeling strongly about something. It can be a happy or sad feeling, or feeling for somebody else. A song can stem from many things such as intense emotions. Songwriting is different every time, and it is a complex thing to explain.”

They acknowledged that songwriting was very cathartic for them when they lost their mother earlier this year. “Being able to express ourselves through music is very cathartic,” Bethany said.

We Three revealed that they will be performing an original song in the live shows on America’s Got Talent. “We are really stoked about this one. That’s all we can say,” they said.

Joshua shared that they were inspired musically by Earth, Wind & Fire, Chicago, Maroon 5, John Mayer and Imagine Dragons. “Groups like that inspire us,” he said.

Bethany listed Ed Sheeran as her dream male duet choice, while Manny picked Julia Michaels, while Joshua selected Elise Trouw for a drum collaboration.

Digital transformation of the music business

On the impact of technology on the music business, Bethany said, “Music is always going to change. We try to evolve with it. We look forward to the next phase of music streaming, or whatever comes next.”

On their use of technology in their daily routines as musicians, she said, “Technology has changed our sound as well. We are a three-piece band and we use a lot of the new sample pads and looping technologies in our sound, to make a bigger sound when we are performing.”

Manny and Josh noted that they use Voice Memos a lot to help them with their song ideas.

For their fans, We Three concluded, “Thank you so much for coming on this journey with us. We are super-grateful and we want to work hard for them. We want to put out as much music as possible.”
