Emmy-nominated actor Wally Kurth chatted about his upcoming “Day Players” concert events, which will take place this September on the East Coast.
He plays the role of Justin Kiriakis on the NBC daytime drama “Days of Our Lives.”
Kurth will be joined by his “Days of Our Lives” co-stars Eric Martsolf, Brandon Barash, and Carson Boatman, all of which have joined musical forces to form “The Day Players.” It is an unprecedented 90-minute acoustic act, encompassing rich harmonies, engaging storytelling, and an unforgettable evening of music.
“We all have our chance to shine in this group, and it will give us a chance to harmonize,” Kurth said. “Today, we are working on four or five new cover songs that we will be introducing to the band. We are very democratic, we vote on the songs that feel good and right. We will be singing about 20 songs in a 90-minute show.”
On the idea for the “Day Players” band, Kurth said, “Eric Martsolf has been hounding me for years to form a group similar to Port Chuck, but I always happened to be busy. After I came out of the quarantine, I did a personal appearance with Scott Reeves and Carson Boatman. I realized that I missed playing live, especially for people that want to hear us.”
“I have been playing a lot of cover songs anyway, and I have been having fun learning old songs I used to play when I first started playing the guitar. We brought in Brandon because we knew he would be a good fit since he is from Port Chuck,” Kurth said.
“Carson became the fourth and final member, and I like the idea of the generational gap between all of us representing a different gap. That was a nice thing,” he added.
On September 15, the “Day Players” will be at The Stress Factory in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and on September 16, they will be performing at The Brokerage Comedy Club in Bellmore on Long Island.
It will be followed by a “Day Players” performance at The Stress Factory in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on September 17, and it will wrap up on September 18 at The Cabot Theatre in Beverly, Massachusetts. “It is going to be fun because it will be two acoustic guitars, and I am impressed with our harmonies,” he said.
“We are a vocal harmony band, Brandon also plays the harmonica, and Eric is going to bring some percussion instruments. It will be vocal-driven and fun. For the most part, it will be songs that everybody knows and they can sing along with us and have fun,” he elaborated.
