Regarding their new “Rule The World” music video, he said, “When we realized it was going to be a single, we started taking some ideas from different directors. A lot of our videos, we did ourselves. We wanted to make sure that he was open to changing things on the fly. We called John Poliquin and he intrigued us. None of us knew what was going to happen until the first shoot, and then it really took on another life.”
Marshall revealed that their full-length studio album, which will feature “Rule The World,” will be released around summer-time, via Columbia Records, their record label. “We love Columbia Records since we signed with them. They really allowed us to continue to do things ourselves, when it comes to videos and cover songs, and anything like that,” he said.
On May 17, the group will be performing at Bowery Ballroom in New York City. “We try to feel the crowd, and we usually have more cover songs that most bands, to bring that YouTube feeling to the stage. Our live show is pretty intense on its own, with a full production, crazy lights, cannons and pyrotechnics,” he said.
Marshall guaranteed that they will be singing their cover of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” at their forthcoming Bowery Ballroom concert.
Each day, he and his band-mates are motivated by their desire to play music. “We are all together for the same reason,” he said.
Walk Off The Earth played with electronic dance music (EDM) star Steve Aoki at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami this year, which was an “incredible” and “insane” experience for the group. Yet another fond moment for Marshall and the band was being nominated for three June awards, which are the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy awards. “It’s fantastic, since there is so much great talent in Canada. It’s an honor every year to be up against great Canadian bands. The nominations were fantastic, and hopefully, next year we can win some,” he said.
Marshall listed Canadian songstress Serena Ryder, as well as Tegan and Sara as his dream female duet choices. For Walk Off The Earth, success means “contentment” in life.
