Rising country recording artist Vincent Mason chatted about his new music, which includes his single “Speak of the Devil.”

‘Speak of the Devil’ single

On the success of his country single “Speak of the Devil,” he said, “It has been great. It felt like some people are really enjoying it. I’ve received a lot of great comments from people, so that’s always a good sign. People are digging it, and it seems to be doing pretty well.”

“I wrote that with a friend of mine who had never written a song before,” he added.

Music and songwriting inspirations

On his music and songwriting inspirations, he revealed, “I try to either reflect stories that have happened to me or feelings that I’ve had.”

“Sometimes, I try to be open to deeper, subconscious thoughts coming through and trying to make sense of them. I am trying to tell stories that have happened to me and to just get to know myself and my songwriting. That is the main thing,” he noted.

Future plans

Regarding his future plans, he remarked, “I am working a lot, and we are working on a lot of things. We just put three or four new songs that will roll out in the beginning of next year.”

On November 22, he is looking forward to the release of “Almost Gone,” his collaboration with Gavin Adcock.

The digital age

On being a part of the digital age, Mason said, “I think it’s really cool. I don’t know anything different. I was born in the digital age.”

“You can upload your song from anywhere and people can hear it all over the world. I think it’s really exciting. I’m a fan of music and I enjoy watching documentaries and find out how it used to work,” he elaborated.

“Now, it is really exciting that people anywhere in the country can get their music heard. This is the best chance for good music to find its way to people,” he added.

Advice for young and aspiring country artists

For young and aspiring country artists, he said, “Don’t try to be like anybody else. Try to be as genuine and authentic as possible.”

“Whatever you write, make sure it is true to yourself and that it’s something that you love. Don’t try to make people love something before you love it yourself,” he added.

Dream duet choices in music

Mason listed Parker McCollum and John Mayer as his dream duet choices in music. “Those would be awesome,” he admitted. “If John Mayer could play guitar on a song of mine, that would be sick.”

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, he said, “Hopeful and ready to take life as it comes.”

“I am just excited,” he admitted. “I am just ready for life to do its thing.”

Success

On his definition of the word success, he said, “Success means making sure that I’m happy and falling in love with the process of making records and playing shows.”

“Don’t think of the results; just fall in love with the process. As long as I am having fun doing this, then I am successful,” he acknowledged.

Closing thoughts on ‘Speak of the Devil’

For his fans and listeners, Mason remarked about “Speak of the Devil,” “It’s a pretty catchy, fun and feel-good song.”

“I hope people feel carefree for a few minutes as they listen to it. I am excited to play it at the shows too because it is going really well,” he concluded.
