Video: ‘Mortal Kombat X’ Reptile trailer

Familiar faces thought to have died in Mortal Kombat 9’s story mode, which seems less canonical, are returning to join the playable cast of Mortal Kombat X.

The last trailer revealed the return of Shaolin warrior Kung Lao and Edenian princess Kitana, both of whom were killed in the last game’s story mode. As a spoiler for the people who have not played the game, Kung Lao brutally died at the hands of Shao Kahn in the second tournament and Kitana died at the hands of Sindel during Outworld’s invasion of Earthrealm.

Kitana’s death drove Liu Kang to anger, which caused a rift in his friendship with Raiden.

NetherRealm Studios, the publisher of Mortal Kombat X, revealed that Reptile has returned and is part of the playable cast.

You can check out Reptile in action in the latest trailer that includes a side of humor in his pre-fight introduction with fellow veteran Kung Lao. This is a first for Kung Lao, who was a serious character in the series.

It is safe to assume that Kung Lao has lightened up in his old age.

Reptile retains his original moves like invisibility, the slide, the acid spit, and the acid ball. His Fatality move is a variant from a similar one used in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.

Fans can look forward to Mortal Kombat X on April 14th for PC, current-generation consoles, and last-generation consoles. It is developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by WB Games.

Reptile made his debut in the console version of the first Mortal Kombat as a secret character and was the only secret character contrary to the rumors of the elusive Ermac. He fought using the combined abilities of Sub-Zero and Scorpion.

Those moves were removed and replaced with originals in Mortal Kombat II.

Reptile’s human form is a disguise from the true reptilian appearance and physically devolved since Mortal Kombat 4.

He will likely be working under Kotal Kahn, Aztec-like sun & blood god and the current ruler of Outworld.

If Reptile’s still alive, what of Baraka and the rest of the Tarkatans?
