Video: ‘Mortal Kombat X’ Kung Lao & Kitana trailer

Fighting game let alone Mortal Kombat fans know that Mortal Kombat X, the 10th direct installment of the popular franchise, hits PC and consoles (both last-generation and current-generation) on April 14th.

You should know that the story behind Mortal Kombat X takes place over a span of 25 years since the ninth installment titled Mortal Kombat, which is a canonical reboot of the story. Shao Kahn, one of the prime antagonists of the franchise, stood victorious at the end of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

Raiden, near death, sends visions to his past self at the first tournament.

The ending of Mortal Kombat 9 resulted in Raiden’s victory of Shao Kahn, but ended in the deaths of many known Mortal Kombat heroes. Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, and Johnny Cage were left as the only surviving Earthrealm heroes, but gave the implication that Liu could come back as a villain because the circumstances between him and Raiden.

Mortal Kombat X’s story created many questions though.

The recent news of Kung Lao’s addition to the cast created more questions since he died in Mortal Kombat 9’s storyline.

WB Games’ latest trailer for the game creates yet more questions because it reveals that Kitana, who was killed by Sindel in Mortal Kombat 9 has been added to the game’s playable cast.

Moloch, from Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, is revealed to be dead in Kitana’s pre-fight introduction with the villainous Quan Chi. You can see Quan Chi hold Moloch’s severed head in his hand.

If you pre-order Mortal Kombat X, Goro is added to the playable cast of characters.

Already confirmed returning characters include Raiden, Kano, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero. New characters include D’Vorah, Ferra & Torr, Cassie Cage, and Kotal Kahn.

Cassie is the daughter of Johnny Cage & Sonya Blade and Kotal Kahn, some Aztec-like sun and blood god, is the new ruler of Outworld.

If you plan on buying the game, be sure to check out the special Mortal Kombat X custom controller.

The controller was introduced at this year’s Consumer Electronics Showcase (CES 2015).

Look forward to playing as Kung Lao and Kitana in a few months.
