Netflix subscribers are in for a treat later this year because of the service’s original content lineup.
Marvel Studios and Netflix have partnered together to provide five original live-action series that will be exclusive to the latter. These series are Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Luke Cage, Marvel’s Iron Fist, and Marvel’s The Defenders.
The first four series will build up towards Marvel’s The Defenders in a similar matter that the first phase of Marvel Studios movies had built up towards Marvel’s The Avengers.
Marvel Entertainment has streamed the first full-length trailer for Marvel’s Daredevil, which stars British actor Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire, The Theory of Everything, Hello Carter, and Legacy) as lawyer Matthew Murdock.
It will act as an origin story for Murdock by slowly telling the story of his transition to the dark superhero that he is today. Marvel’s Daredevil will be dark and gritty, contrasting the movies and the TV show Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.
Actress Rosario Dawson is briefly shown as having a role in the series.
This version of Daredevil will be conflicted as he is seen confessing to a priest to seek forgiveness for what he plans on doing. It seems likely that Daredevil is not above killing in this series, which adds to the dark and gritty tone.
You can look forward to watching Marvel’s Daredevil on April 10th.
It is already confirmed that Krysten Ritter will star as the titular Jessica Jones in Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones, where she will share the spotlight with David Tennant and Carrie-Anne Moss. Tennant, famously known as the Tenth Doctor in Dr. Who, will play the series’ antagonist Purple Man.
Mike Colter will be in Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones as Luke Cage and will star in Marvel’s Luke Cage in the titular role.
All five series will share the same cinematic story universe as the films and Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. It is unknown if there will be any planned crossovers in the future.
Daredevil is known in the main comic universe as one of the protectors of Hell’s Kitchen, New York.
Also on Netflix, House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright, will be entering its third season later this month.
