Video: ‘Fantastic Four’ official trailer

20th Century Fox has posted the official trailer to the reboot of Fantastic Four film franchise, which stars a new and younger cast of performers. This trailer shows the Fantastic Four’s unique powers, the gist of the film’s storyline, and a glimpse of the villainous Dr. Doom. Fantastic Four is a Marvel Comics movie, but Marvel Entertainment had no affiliation with the film itself.

One has to remember that 20th Century Fox currently holds the film rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises.

Reg E. Cathey (House of Cards, Oz, Homicide: Life on the Street, The Wire, and Grimm) plays Dr. Franklin Storm, who goes before a panel of financiers. The financiers are disappointed that Dr. Storm has produced nothing in six years.

But Dr. Storm insists things will be different because he has Reed Richards, played by Miles Teller (Project X, Divergent, Two Night Stand, 21 & Over, and That Awkward Moment), on his team. He puts plenty of faith in Richards because this young and brilliant mind has all the necessary answers.

Richards is brought on board and befriends Susan Storm, Johnny Storm, Ben Grimm, and Victor Domashev.

Domashev, played by Toby Kebbell (RocknRolla, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Wrath of the Titans, The East, and The Counselor), becomes the villain known as Doom. He is different from the original film counterpart played by Julian McMahon. This version of Doom will be portrayed as antisocial, cynical, and wisecracking before the tragic event.

The titular Fantastic Four goes on a mission to an alternate universe, where s—t hits the fan and they lose Domashev in the process.

Richards and the other survivors are taken to medical quarantine, where they exhibit their unique powers. That is something comic book fans should look forward to, where Johnny Storm aka Human Torch insists they use their powers to help people.

The film will open in theaters on August 7.

There is a sense of familiarity with the cast of characters.

Cathey and Kate Mara, the latter playing Susan Storm aka Invisible Woman, were both on House of Cards. Cathey played Freddie and Mara played Zoe Barnes in the series, where Barnes was killed in the beginning of season two.

Mara’s not a stranger to superhero films as one of her film credits is listed as playing a U.S. Marshal in Iron Man 2.

Teller and Michael B. Jordan worked together in That Awkward Moment.

Jamie Bell (The Eagle, Flags of Our Fathers, The Adventures of Tintin, and Snowpiercer) plays Ben Grimm aka The Thing. Bell is currently cast as Abraham Woodhull in the AMC series TURN: Washington’s Spies.
