In the popular and controversial HBO series VICE, Vice Media founder Shane Smith and his group of correspondents are tenacious in their efforts, traveling the world to pursue their stories, covering topics not covered by traditional media. In past seasons, China’s “ghost cities,” an Indonesian clinic that promotes smoking as a cure for health ailments, gangs and guns turning areas of Chicago into a war zone, were just a few topics covered.
Raw, edgy, and unorthodox, the Emmy award winning series, executive produced by Bill Maher, is now heading into its third season. In the season premiere, Smith travels with a group of scientists to the bottom of the world to investigate the instability of the West Antarctic ice sheet and see firsthand how the continent is melting. This special extended report covers all sides of the issue and all corners of the globe, ending in a special interview with Vice President Joe Biden. In the second episode of the season is a harrowing piece on Salvadorean migrant workers and their families. To escape a life of poverty and violence, they must endure a hellish journey to the U.S. on a train called “The Beast”.
With Smith at the helm, this season introduces a number of new award-winning correspondents: VICE Media co-founder Suroosh Alvi, conflict-zone journalist Ben Anderson, and Emmy-nominated producer Gianna Toboni, among others.
The third season of Vice premieres on HBO on March 6.
