Mr. Newton’s estate, Casa de Shenandoah, has recently opened to the public. It was his home for over 40 years, and it includes his car collection, private plane, exotic pets and a lifetime collection of memorabilia. “It has been going really incredibly well. We opened in the third week of September, and every day is picking up in terms of people wanting to come and see it. It’s worth seeing, and I say that in modesty, because we have some of the finest horses in the world, and some antique cars. We have swans, peacocks and all kids of birds and monkeys. It is seven minutes from the Las Vegas Strip,” he said.
Regarding the key to longevity in the entertainment industry, Wayne said, “I have always geared my shows to the people that come to see me. The first three songs are very different from each other and I am able to tell from those songs, what kind of taste the audience has and what they want to hear. It has been a labor of love for me. I have never looked at my watch on stage and I had never felt like I was doing the audience a favor for being there. They have given me the life that I have, and I am very grateful for that.”
Each day, Newton is motivated by his ability to adjust. “Life is mountains and valleys and it is that way for all of us, but the sun comes out tomorrow. It is the fact that I have always been motivated by bringing a little bit of happiness to people’s lives that ordinarily might not have had,” he said.
Another fond moment for Newton was receiving his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “That was incredible, and obviously one of those things that one never truly contemplates in their lives,” he said. “It was an incredible moment and something that I still enjoy when I think about it.”
His advice for aspiring actors and musicians is as follows: “I would really sum it up in one word and that’s discipline. As long as you are disciplined with what you do, and your intentions are honorable, you are going to end up in the top of the mountain, instead of a valley someplace,” he said.
