Jackson made this B-side track while he was recording Bad, his iconic 1987 album. It’s one of many previously unreleased Jackson songs we may soon be hearing. As part of the album’s 25th anniversary re-release, the Bad 25 deluxe package is expected to include several unheard demos and songs that didn’t make the original version of the heralded album, such as the one released today.
“Don’t Be Messin’ ‘Round” is available immediately to buy in hard copy via Wal-Mart or Amazon. The track is bundled with the re-release single “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You.”
Jackson passed away on June 25, 2009, due to propofol intoxication after suffering a respiratory arrest at his home on North Carolwood Drive in the Holmby Hills neighborhood in Los Angeles.
The Atlantic explains how the “Don’t Be Messin'” was made: it features Jackson playing piano and he “also produced, arranged, and guided many of the instrumental parts, including the cinematic strings, Jonathan Maxey’s piano part in the bridge, and David Williams funky guitar licks.”
So what happened to the track? Jackson continued to work on “Don’t Be Messin'” well into late 1986; but “once Quincy Jones came on board, the serious paring began and ‘Don’t Be Messin’ was left on the cutting room floor,” the Atlantic notes.
