Actor Trevor Donovan chatted about the upcoming movie “Ethan Almighty — Ethan’s Law” film, reuniting with Selma Blair, fellow alumna from “Dancing with the Stars,” and the “Raise the Ruff” benefit this weekend.

Ethan Almighty — Ethan’s Law

Donovan will soon step into the pivotal role of Eric Davidson, a doctor whose own battle for health uniquely positions him to understand the weight of a miracle. His story runs parallel to the dog’s journey, exploring how Ethan’s survival gave hope to a community.

On the new film project, Donovan remarked, “What drew me to this project was that I was in Costa Rica coincidentally this past December, and my friend Madeline works with Nosara Animal Care, and she does dog rescue.”

“So, we were hanging out a bunch and I helped her out when we were cruising around town, getting dogs adopted, and did a little charity fundraiser. I fostered a dog named Cookie for a bit, and during that trip was when the ‘Ethan Almighty’ script came across my table.”

“As I’m reading this script, I’m sitting in my hotel room with a foster dog and it was just very serendipitous, considering the premise of the film,” he acknowledged.

“Animal and dog rescue have been very important to me for a long time. So, this was just the perfect fit,” he admitted.

This project is extra special and meaningful for Donovan because it fuses his professional career with his personal dedication to animal welfare.

“This story is just something that really tugs at my heartstrings,” he noted. “It was something I could really connect to emotionally, and the story is just amazing and people need to hear it,” he said.

Donovan on reuniting with Selma Blair

Donovan is reuniting with Selma Blair for the “Ethan Almighty — Ethan’s Law” film. They were both castmates on “Dancing With the Stars” Season 31 together. “It’s going to be awesome,” he admitted. “I can’t wait!”

“We really hit it off when were on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ together. She is just so much fun, sweet and funny with a great sense of humor. We just along so well,” he noted.

“When I found out that they were talking to Selma Blair for the other role, I was on board immediately, so I am looking forward to it,” he said.

Donovan on Costa Rica

Speaking of Costa Rica, Donovan revealed that this was his third winter down there. “Two years before, I was down there with my brother, his wife, and her friends. It’s just an incredible place, and it is very spiritual. I just love it there!”

Working with Jillian Murray and Dominic Lopez

This past holiday season, Donovan worked with Jillian Murray and Dominic Lopez in the rom-com “Chasing Christmas.

“Jillian and I have worked together several times now, so we know each other very well,” he said.

“Dominic is a sweet and very talented kid. It was very professional and fun. Obviously, his parents, Mario and Courtney Lopez raised his right. We had a great time filming this movie,” he added.

Raise the Ruff’ Fundraiser

On March 7th, Donovan will be hosting the “Raise the Ruff” fundraiser in Wilmington, North Carolina, for the second year in a row, which benefits Paws Place, which is a life-saving animal shelter.

“It’s fantastic,” he exclaimed. I can’t wait to go back to the Paws Place, where I can see all the pups. It is such a heartwarming shelter.”

They’re out in the countryside. So they get walked by the employees and they’re all volunteers and they go walk the dogs. And, you know, there’s no street traffic or loud noises. They’re out in nature, and it’s really amazing,” he elaborated.

Great American Family

Donovan shared his excitement for future movies and projects with Great American Family. “We’ve got a few scripts that we are working on that I’ve been looking at and considering,” he said.

“While I don’t have any definitive news just yet, I will certainly be doing at least one or two movies with Great American Family this year,” he foreshadowed.

When asked if Donovan would ever consider doing a dog-related movie (especially since he has a love and affinity for dogs) for Great American Family, he responded, “There might be one potentially!”

“With all the rescue work and adoptions I’ve been doing lately, I would love to tie that into a movie someday,” he added.

Donovan on Jessica Lowndes

Donovan had great words about actress Jessica Lowndes, whom he previously worked with on “90210” on The CW.

“I’ve known Jessica for a long time. She was my character’s first girlfriend on the show ‘90210’,” he recalled.

“We work together really well. We reunited in ‘A Harvest Homecoming,’ which we filmed together in Kentucky and it was fantastic! It felt like no time had passed,” he added.

‘Where the Wind Blows’ movie

Donovan spoke about his experience in the western “Where the Wind Blows.” “It was great,” he exclaimed. “If I could do one genre for the rest of my career, it would be westerns.”

“We filmed it in Montana in a beautiful country area, and it was just so much fun,” he admitted. “I just loved the whole period piece back in the 1800s. I love that whole frontier story.”

“I am hoping I can do a couple of more westerns,” he added.

Working with C. Thomas Howell in ‘Where the Wind Blows’

Donovan had great words about working with C. Thomas Howell in “Where the Wind Blows.” “Tommy is a great dude. He came in and did the beginning of the movie and he really kicks off the story,” Donovan said.

“We rode horses together through those hills, and I got to talk to him during the downtime. Tommy is such a cool, grounded guy with a great heart and morals,” Donovan said.

“Tommy played Ponyboy in ‘The Outsiders’ and that’s my favorite movie of all time. I would love to work with Tommy again soon,” he added.

Message for his fans

For his fans, the #Donofans, he expressed, “The fans are incredible! They are so wonderful and they stay on top of things every day.”

“Several of the women are coming down to Wilmington a day earlier to volunteer at Paws Place before the ‘Raise the Ruff’ Fundraiser… so, as you can see, the fans are just amazing people,” Donovan concluded.
