Regarding the success of “In Case You Didn’t Know,” he said, “We have had an amazing ride with that song. It has been over a year since it was No. 1 on the charts, but it is one of the most Top 20 played country songs to this day. Now, it has gone triple platinum, and it is just amazing how it turned out.”
“In Case You Didn’t Know” also earned a Billboard Music Award nomination for “Top Country Song.” “That’s a nice feather in my cap, and we were excited about that,” he admitted.
On his plans for the future, Tomlinson said, “I am in the studio working on a new album. I am writing new music, and I also co-wrote Chris Young’s song ‘Where I Go When I Drink.’ We are excited about that. I try to keep my hands in everything I can in the music business.”
Digital transformation on country music
On the impact of technology on the country music business, Tomlinson admitted that he isn’t a fan. “I hate it,” he said. “I understand young people enjoy streaming, but it is killing the American songwriter. At one point in Nashville, there were over 1,000 to 1,500 staff writers writing for publishing companies, and now that number is down to almost 200, because they can’t afford to pay songwriters, since everybody is singing these songs for free. The music really suffers, and it is really frustrating.”
For his fans, Tomlinson is thankful that they have stuck with him all these years.
