Country singer-songwriter Travis Denning chatted about his new song “Strawberry Wine And A Cheap Six Pack.”

“The new song is great,” he said. “I am very excited about it because it has a nostalgic, 2000s country vibe to it. I am really excited for the song to get out. It has been fun to play live and it feels like something has been missing for a while.”

‘David Ashley Parker From Powder Springs’

A native of Warner Robins, Georgia, Denning first made waves with the release of his Top 40 debut single “David Ashley Parker From Powder Springs,” which has also been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). “That was great, it was awesome just to have that as my first single,” he said.

“It was a very personal story, it was a fun song, and a cool time in my life too,” he added.

‘After A Few’

He celebrated his first No.1 and platinum-certified single with “After A Few” from Denning’s debut EP Beer’s Better Cold, which debuted in the Top 20 in the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.

“That was probably the best feeling of all time, it was the biggest accomplishment of my career,” he said. “It was a special moment, especially during a crazy and hectic time during COVID.”

Last summer, Denning released the EP, Might As Well Be Me. Crafted for the stage with all of Denning’s hard-charging energy and mischief-making signatures intact, the collection also captures an artist maturing.

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, Denning said, “It’s awesome. You definitely think about a lot of things that you didn’t think of early on. Now, more than ever, streaming is key in terms of what can snowball success and turn into a great touring career, and things of that nature. One part that is super0positive and exciting is that people want a lot of new music and they want it fast, quick, and now.”

Denning revealed that he in the studio recording his next project. “It’s an exciting time to be creative. I’ve recorded eight songs already this year. I am locked, loaded, and ready for a good year,” he said.

‘Buy A Girl A Drink’

His most recent track “Buy A Girl A Drink” is a candlelit confession that features Denning’s tender lyrics. “That was inspired by my love for my fiancée and where our story started,” he said. “It is crazy how it has turned into something bigger than just a vodka soda on a Friday night.”

“We are getting married in a couple of months and it is very exciting,” he added.

On the title of the current chapter of his life, he responded, “My Next 30 Years.” “It’s a transitioning moment, I’m 30 years old and I am getting married,” he said.

A Mercury Nashville recording artist, Denning’s songwriting extends to other artists. Denning has co-written for Michael Ray, Chase Rice, Jason Aldean, Justin Moore, and he has a cut on the soon-to-be-released Morgan Wallen album “Devil Don’t Know.”

Touring

Denning has previously headlined his own “Heartbeat Of A Small Town” Tour and he has toured with such diverse artists as Brothers Osborne, Cole Swindell, Dustin Lynch, Alan Jackson, Riley Green, Dierks Bentley and Jake Owen.

Presently, he is out on the road headlining and playing festivals throughout the summer. “The tour has been good. We have been playing some headlining shows across the country,” he said. “We head to Texas this weekend. It has been great to play some shows and a lot of fun.”

To this day, he listed Lee Ann Womack as his dream female duet choice in country music. “I would love to do a song with Lee Ann Womack someday, it hasn’t happened yet but that would be cool. Perhaps her and I can do an unreleased song,” he said.

Success

On his definition of success, he said, “Success is showing up somewhere in a town and having a full venue singing your songs back to you. Making a living, paying the bills, having some time off to go fishing during the spring, and be in a tour bus with my friends. I feel I am living that life now and it is only getting better. I’m definitely very happy and I have good perspective on what it means and how lucky I am. It has been great, success is where I am at now.”

“I think it’s the perfect song for the windows down,” he said. “To me, this song takes me back to being young (21 or 22) and when you have the freedom of feeling like you have the whole world on a backroad in a truck somewhere. Everybody has that moment in their life that it’s fond to look back on and that’s what this song is supposed to be.”
