Actor and model Travis Cure chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about starring as Bobby in the hit TV series The Oval on BET, and being an entertainer in the digital age.

The Oval was created, written, directed, and executive produced by Tyler Perry. It is the No. 1 scripted series on cable TV. “I am proud of the work we put in, and we talk about each scene thoroughly before we film it,” he said. “It’s all about preparation and breaking it down all the way to the bones and then, building the scenes back up again. I love the process the most, everything that goes in before the day of filming.”

“I love the process a lot and I love how I feel in that moment. I did some time in the military so I am very disciplined and focused,” he added.

Cure is drawn to playing Bobby for a variety of reasons. “The best thing about playing Bobby is that he fits me and my personality, so I don’t have to pretend to be somebody else,” he said. “For me, it’s about being in the moment when I play Bobby.”

He had great remarks about his luminous acting partner Bill Barrett, where they shared some intense yet exhilarating action scenes together. “Bill is the best. He is a sweetheart. We are brothers, and he is a hard worker,” Cure exclaimed. “”

The same holds true about working with actor Brad Benedict in The Oval. “I love Brad too, he is so full of energy,” he said. “It’s amazing working with Brad and Bill, they work really hard. If you ever felt like you weren’t a great actor, you will feel that when you work with those guys because they are both great and they bring out the best in you.”

On being an actor and artist in the digital age, at a time when streaming and technology are prevalent, Cure said, “I’ve adapted to it. I did some time in the military, so I can easily adapt to most things. Whatever they throw at me, I can get it done however I need to get it done.”

Regarding the title of the current chapter of his life, he said, “Joy.” “While situations are different for everybody, do what brings you joy,” he said.

He listed “The Rock” Dwayne Johnson, Michael B. Jordan, and Will Smith as his dream collaboration choices in acting and entertainment.

His advice for young and aspiring actors is perseverance. “Don’t give up,” he underscored. “That’s one of the most important things other than prayer. Nothing is ever instant, and instant gratification doesn’t last long. If you want longevity in this business, you never give up.”

Regarding his definition of the word success, Cure said, “internal happiness.” “Success goes beyond the surface and it comes from within,” he explained.

For his fans and followers, Cure concluded about The Oval, “I love you guys, I really appreciate the fans staying up late to watch the show. We appreciate them taking the time to tune in, we couldn’t do it without the fans. I really appreciate them and we will continue working hard for you guys.”
