“Trapped By My Sugar Daddy,” directed by Lindsay Hartley, is a riveting thriller that premiered on Sunday, January 9, on Lifetime. Digital Journal has the scoop.

18-year-old Carly (played by Katie Kelly) begins dating a charming 50-year-old man Mr. Smithford (played by “Passions” alum James Hyde) who treats her to a fancy lifestyle that includes shopping sprees and high-end restaurants, and that creates a huge rift with her mother Sarah Bragg (portrayed by Tiffany Montgomery).

Sarah’s instincts are proven to be correct when the man becomes psychologically manipulative and turns Carly into an emotional prisoner in his mansion.

Heather Harris stars as Mel Bradley, director Lindsay Hartley also plays the role of Amanda James, while Ryan Francis portrays the villainous Brent Cundey. Hunter Hobbs is also featured in the role of Ben.

The Verdict

Overall, the film “Trapped By My Sugar Daddy” is dark, intense (creating an eerie mood), yet intriguing all around. James Hyde delivers a controlled and commanding performance as Mr. Smithford, while Katie Kelly is irresistible as the bubbly Carly.

The entire cast brings something unique to the table in this psychological thriller. It was neat to see “Passions” actors Hyde and Hartley reunite for this project. “Trapped By My Sugar Daddy” garners four out of five stars.
