Acclaimed DJ and producer Tracy Young chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about her second historic Grammy nomination for the Fashionably Late remix of k.d. lang’s “Constant Craving.”
On her latest Grammy nomination for “Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical,” Young said, “I actually have no words, it’s crazy. It’s incredibly humbling to be recognized again because I feel that this just happened, and it did just happen. Wow, and to be the second female nominee in that Grammy category… good point.”
This soaring remix earned a favorable review from Digital Journal. The “Fashionably Late” remix of “Constant Craving” is available on digital service providers by clicking here. “That song was actually never remixed before. k.d. released a new compilation of some of her favorite songs and she had them all remixed. She realized that ‘Constant Craving’ had never been remixed,” she said.
“I had actually met k.d. lang back in the ’90s through my friend Ingrid so that I had hung out with her before. The universe had tapped into the project because that’s for sure. It was an honor to work on the song already but to be recognized again by the Recording Academy is just really special,” she added.
Young was the first woman ever nominated in this category, and she won the Grammy in 2020 for her Tracy Young Pride remix of Madonna’s “I Rise.”
She has been working in a male-dominated field for nearly three decades. Young is a Grammy-winning DJ, producer, remixer, composer, writer, entertainment correspondent, and on-air radio personality for iHeart Media.
Young is a pioneer in the music industry, and an inspiration to other female DJs and producers. She knocked open the glass ceiling with her Grammy win in this category two years ago and continues to be a force to be reckoned with as still the only woman nominated in the category with now her second nomination.
With more than 25 years in the music industry, Young has racked up over 60 No. 1 Billboard Club Chart Hits and has collaborated on remixes with over 100 artists, including 14 exclusively for Madonna as well as with Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Stevie Nicks, Idina Menzel, Christina Aguilera, Gloria Estefan, Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, Cher, Shakira, Pink, Rhianna, and Lady Gaga, among others.
For her dedicated fans, Young concluded about her “Constant Craving” remix, “First of all, k.d. lang has one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard, and hopefully, the remix will introduce it to a new generation of fans for the next 20 to 30 years. This will give the song even more longevity, and it’s a genius record in its original form already. It’s a different sound and I was able to go in a direction musically that I think people may be don’t expect from me all the time.”
