Timothy V. Murphy talks about starring in ‘Ride or Die’ short film, directed by Joshua Shultz

Veteran actor Timothy V. Murphy chatted about starring in the new short film “Ride or Die,” which was directed by Joshua Shultz.

“Ride or Die” is a tale about “two lost souls searching for connection, who find themselves thrust into a whirlwind of chaos.”

Through a series of dangerous and unpredictable events, their bond is tested, while their character is revealed.

Aside from Murphy, the cast features Emma Kotos, Joshua Shultz, Reyneen Pedro, Kiana Kaye, Amber Black, Mike Gonzales, Liz Cotter, Lauren Kayati, and Joe Kayati.

Working with Joshua Shultz

On working with writer and director Joshua Shultz, Murphy remarked, “It was great working with Joshua Shultz; he has a great eye and did a great job acting, directing, and producing.”

Playing Tim in ‘Ride or Die’

On playing his character (Tim), Murphy stated, “I loved my character; there is honor amongst thieves. He is violent and cruel but only to those who lie and disrespect him. He’s a strong man who takes care of his own but don’t cross him.”

Lessons learned from this short film

Murphy went on to share some of the lessons that this short has taught him.

“If you like the character, do it even if there is no money; It’s always good being creative and meeting and working with other creative people and of course you get great Instagram photos,” he explained.

Daily motivations

Regarding his daily motivations, he shared, “What motivates me is feeding my family; it’s difficult as an artist sometimes, but if you can feed your family doing something you love, that’s great.”

The digital age

On being a part of the digital age, Murphy said, “It is what it is. With AI and ChatGPT,
our industry and employment in it will be less and less.”

For young and aspiring actors, he said, “I don’t know what the future holds, acting is never an easy profession.”

“The future and present is making your own videos. My kids are acting, editing, directing and creating online by making videos,” he added.

Future plans

Regarding his future plans, he shared, “Hopefully play great characters in great movies, same as it always was, and make money doing it.”
