Acclaimed actor Thorsten Kaye chatted about his 2023 Daytime Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series” for his work in “The Bold and The Beautiful.”
American author, speaker, and leader John C. Maxwell once said: “Dreams don’t work unless you do.” This quote applies to Thorsten Kaye.
2023 ‘Lead Actor’ Emmy nomination
Kaye has been nominated for “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series” for his portrayal of Ridge Forrester in “The Bold and The Beautiful” on CBS. “That is very much appreciated but it’s a team sport, it takes a village,” he said.
This marks his third career Emmy nomination for playing Ridge on the show.
“The Bold and The Beautiful” received a total of 14 Daytime Emmy nominations this year, which included nods for “Outstanding Drama Series,” as well as “Directing Team for a Daytime Drama Series” and “Writing Team for a Daytime Drama Series.” “The show is doing something right,” he said, about all its Emmy nominations this year.
Kaye went on to congratulate his co-stars Krista Allen and Jacqueline MacInnes Wood for their Emmy nominations as well for “Outstanding Supporting Actress” and “Outstanding Lead Actress” respectively, as well as Henry Joseph Samiri, who is up for “Outstanding Younger Performer.” “Both ladies are fantastic,” he said. “Also, Henry Joseph Samiri does a good job, he knows his lines better than anybody.”
Thorsten Kaye sets a record with his Emmy nods
Particularly impressive about Kaye is that he is the only performer to be Emmy-nominated in the prestigious “Lead Actor” category for his acting work on three different daytime dramas (“Port Charles,” “All My Children,” and “The Bold and The Beautiful”).
“This record may hold for a while because there are only a few daytime shows left,” he said. “If I were to go back in time, I would have also submitted for ‘One Life to Live,’ where I was on, along with my wife, Susan. I think I had done some great acting work on that show.”
Portraying Ridge, working with John McCook
On playing Ridge Forrester, he jokingly laughed, “I get paid on Thursdays, so that’s good.” “It’s a really nice show, and John McCook, who plays my dad is one of my favorite people in the world, so it’s nice to go to work and work with someone that you respect and love,” he said.
“John McCook is simply the best, I love that guy,” he exclaimed about his onscreen father, who plays the iconic Eric Forrester. “John is just amazing.”
Favorite storylines on the show
On his favorite storylines on the show, he revealed, “I really loved when Karla Mosley did the transgender storyline with Jacob Young. I thought it was well-crafted, and the acting was incredible. Those two were so good in that.”
Kaye had great words about working with rising actor Joshua Hoffman as his onscreen son, RJ Forrester. “Joshua has been there a few days already, he is such a hard worker, and he is in really good shape.”
He also complimented veteran actor Sean Kanan for his work as the nefarious Deacon Sharpe. “I’ve known Sean Kanan for a long time now. His Deacon has a real edge, doesn’t he?” he said.
This December, Kaye will be celebrating his 10th anniversary on the hit CBS daytime drama “The Bold and The Beautiful,” which is quite a milestone. “Honestly, that went by so quick. I thought it was five years. Time sure flies,” he said.
Dialogue-heavy
When asked how he handles being dialogue-heavy, he said, “When I was in graduate school, I was part of a classical repertoire company, so we did seven plays at the same time. Memorizing things comes very easy for me. I always say that if the show is written well, then memorizing the lines is easier to do.”
Filming overseas
Last year, he noted that he enjoyed filming “The Bold and The Beautiful” in Monte Carlo (Monaco). “Monte Carlo was very nice, and a pretty cool place,” he said.
“I look forward to going back to film in Europe in a couple of weeks, so I am excited to see how that goes,” he foreshadowed.
Career-defining moments
On his career-defining moments, Kaye shared, “The moment that defined me was meeting my wife on ‘One Life to Live’ and having two beautiful kids with her.”
The digital age
On being an actor in the digital age, he said, “I think it’s great. We jumped on that wagon a little early. I did ‘One Life to Live’ and ‘All My Children’ online, and I think that could have worked a few years later. At the time, they weren’t ready for it. I like the digital age now, it’s good to have all these outlets for art. The accessibility aspect of it is really cool.”
Advice for hopefuls in acting
For young and aspiring actors, he said, “Learn your craft, and put the work in. That way, you can be ready when they call you.”
On the title of the current chapter of his life, Kaye said, “Too much flying, figure it out.”
If he were to do any track and field event, Kaye responded, “I came to the United States on a decathlon scholarship. I love the 100 meter dash. There were times during those 10 seconds when all sound stopped, and the world seemed to disappear,” he said.
Superpower
If he were to have any superpower, he shared that it would be “flight.” “Being able to fly without the help of JetBlue would be amazing,” he admitted. “Teleportation would be nice too, to avoid TSA.”
Success
Regarding his definition of the word success, Kaye said, “Success means having a roof over my head, food on the table, and a healthy family.”

Kaye praised his dedicated soap opera fans of “The Bold and The Beautiful” for being the “greatest” out there. “It is pretty cool that our fans are multigenerational,” he acknowledged.
