Actor Thomas Sadoski (“The Newsroom”) chatted about starring in the new coming of age film “Adult Children.”

The synopsis is: When a crisis provides Morgan (Ella Rubin of “Anora”) the rare opportunity to spend time with her significantly older half-siblings, she hopes they’ll be able to shed some light on what it means to be an adult, only to discover that they’re all faking it.

On being a part of this movie, Sadoski exclaimed, “It was beautiful; it was a real labor of love. I’ve known everybody involved in that movie for a really long time.”

“So, it was a wonderful experience to get to work together with everyone. It became like a real family situation, and I feel that comes off on the screen,” he explained.

Woodstock Film Festival

Directed by Rich Newey from a screenplay by Annika Marks, “Adult Children” will have its New York premiere at the 2025 Woodstock Film Festival on October 16th, where Sadoski will be a part of a Q & A session at the Woodstock Playhouse.

“Working with Rich was amazing,” he exclaimed. “I love these guys! I’ve known Annika Marks and Rich Newey for a really long time; they are dear friends of mine.”

“It was just a total joy to get to be on set with them, and be able to spend all that time together with them,” he added.

Playing his character Josh

Sadoski was drawn to his character, Josh, for several reasons. “Ultimately, the thing I liked the most about playing Josh was the fact that I got to work with all of those amazing people as my family,” he said.

“Getting to be in relationships with all of those women was a really cool thing for me, and I love that the character of Josh gave me the opportunity to do that,” he admitted.

Lessons learned from this screenplay

On the lessons learned from this screenplay, he said, “I think that Annika [Marks] is an amazing writer, and there is so much in that screenplay that teaches everyone who comes across it something about themselves.”

“More than anything, the foundation of the story is love, whether it comes out in a messy, funny, crazy or painful way,” he acknowledged.

“The foundation of the story is love and being reminded of that was a really beautiful lesson for me, and something that I would like to take with me,” he added.

The digital age

On being a part of the digital age, Sadoski said, “I am a little bit scared of it, honestly. I like the world where we all gather together in a room, and we experience something together.”

“I think that is less lonely, and I think that this movie speaks to that… it’s all these people colliding into each other under one roof or in the same rooms,” he noted.

“You see all of the craziness of family and people play out in that way. I think that is something really powerful and really important; otherwise, I just feel so lonely… sitting in front of a screen by myself. That is not the world that I want to be a part of,” he explained.

Career-defining moments

Regarding his career-defining moments, he remarked, “So many moments have helped define me throughout my career. I like the idea of not being defined anymore. I love the idea of continuing to push myself and uncharted territory whether that is being a producer or a director. I don’t like to feel defined or confined.”

“I want to find something to do that is exciting, new, and different,” Sadoski added.

Advice for young and emerging actors and filmmakers

For young and aspiring actors, creatives, and filmmakers, he said, “You need to make sure that you love it more than anything else. Also, never take ‘no’ for an answer.”

“Just because one place says ‘no’ doesn’t mean that another place will also say ‘no.’ Never, ever count yourself out. Always put your best foot forward and advocate for yourself and the things that you believe in,” he elaborated.

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, Sadoski revealed, “And Then He Said ‘What’s Next’?”

If he were to have any superpower, it would be “flight.”

Success

On his definition of the word success, Sadoski expressed, “Success means that I feel connected to the most honest part of myself, and that I am putting forward the best version of myself that I can manage in the moment as an example to my children.”

Greece

When asked if he has visited Greece, he shared, “Greece is a beautiful place. I’ve been there through Athens, but it has always been on my bucket list for almost my entire life.”

“I am desperate to really spend time on the islands and do a proper amount of time there. It’s my favorite food in the world and the birthplace of something that I love so much, which is the theater,” he elaborated.

“I would love to visit Epidaurus and pay homage to the birthplace of this art that I love,” he admitted.

Speaking of Epidaurus, it is an ancient Greek site in the Peloponnese, which is known for its incredibly preserved ancient theater and its status as the most important healing center of the ancient world, and it is dedicated to Asklepios, the Greek god of medicine.

Closing thoughts on ‘Adult Children’

For viewers and fans, he said about the new movie “Adult Children,” “What we want is for people to walk out of the movie theater feeling better than they did when they walked in, and I think that’s what the movie does.”

“You feel a little bit better about the world and a little bit better about your place than when you did when you walked in,” he observed.

“I think that the movie inspires people to want to immediately call their family, and then make fun of them,” he concluded.
