Her new show runs for 90 minutes and it features over 20 classic Motown tunes, where she takes her listeners on an inspirational journey throughout her illustrious career in the music industry, which exceeds four decades. This show was co-written by Houston and actress Iona Morris.
In this production, Houston pays tribute to her gospel roots and to legendary songwriter Jimmy Webb, who was the producer of Houston’s debut studio album, Sunshower, which was released in 1969 on Dunhill Records.
With her record label, Motown Records, Houston catapulted to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, the Billboard Disco Singles and the Billboard Soul Singles charts in 1976-1977 with her signature song “Don’t Leave Me This Way,” which went on to garner her a Grammy award for “Best R&B Vocal Performance, Female.” This single was certified gold and it gave Houston the distinction of being the first female solo artist on Motown Records to win this prestigious Grammy award. Aside from the United States, “Don’t Leave Me This Way” became a smash hit in over twelve countries worldwide.
