‘The Voice’ alum and music star Billy Gilman talks new music (Includes interview and first-hand account)

On being a part of the grand opening of Bice, he said, “It’s a legendary restaurant that went away for a little bit and it’s making its comeback, and I found it interesting, since I am making my comeback step by step, and it is a parallel. It is kind of neat.”

He was excited to perform “Good Life” at this event. “This song has been getting such a great response,” he said. “It is an anthem of positivity, and has a great look and vibe. I am very proud of the words in the songs. The lyrics mean something.”

Regarding his future plans, Gilman said, “I am going back in the studio next month, and I will have new music. I have concerts coming up and things to build my brand.” “That’s what I have been wanting to do for so long, and with the help of The Voice, it has given me more leverage, and I am very grateful for that,” he said.

Gilman listed Harry Styles, Adele and Barbra Streisand as his dream collaboration choices.

Digital transformation of music business

On the impact of technology on the music business, Gilman said, “It is awesome since people can find you wherever. Back in the day, you only had one outlet, to go and get a CD. Nowadays, you can look it up on your phone and find new music. I think it’s fantastic. We have a long way to go with residuals and earnings, but it is a great thing where we are headed.”

Gilman noted that he uses technology all the time in his music routine, especially to record melodies and ideas on his phone. “If I like a song that I hear I’ll Shazam it. Technology is huge,” he admitted.

Mini-concert

At Bice Cucina, Gilman treated audience members to a mini-concert, where he sang his single “Good Life,” which was upbeat and well-received by all. It was followed by a powerhouse rendition of Celine Dion’s “I Surrender,” where he nailed the high notes, and displayed his tremendous vocal range, thus leaving everybody in total awe of his natural talent. His performance was heartfelt and expressive, and earned him a standing ovation.
