‘The Testament of Sister New Devil’ EP 7 teaches ‘true heroism’

Episode seven of The Testament of Sister New Devil, titled “The Depths of Love and Hatred,” is currently streaming on Crunchyroll for paid members. Free subscribers can watch this same episode six days from now on February 25th.

Things have gotten complicated for Basara and company because they have to contend with demon hunters aside from hostile demons. These demon hunters are Basara’s former friends, which makes the situation very complex.

Basara’s former friends do not f—k around the bush when they fight.

It is apparent that they are taking the fight seriously and plan on killing Mio and Maria if they win.

The fight scene between Basara and Yuki’s younger sister, Kurumi, was exciting even though the studio added a bit of “fan service.” It seems that the trio of Mio, Maria, and Yuki, is not enough to satisfy the studio.

I was surprised that Kurumi warmed up to Basara again when he won over her in their fight.

But I was shocked more when Kurumi expressed concern over Yuki’s intentions to fight Basara. It seems that Kurumi secretly harbors feelings towards Basara, but she does not want anybody else to know about it.

I didn’t expect Yuki to get philosophical about what it means to be hero.

I honestly thought Yuki was about to kill Mio and Maria, but was surprised at her resolve to protect them. It seems that Yuki does not possess a narrow-minded view of what heroism is in contrast to her fellow demon hunters.

The fight scene with Takashi was enjoyable and I was not surprised that he lost because the anime is on its seventh episode along with the fact that Basara is the star of the series. Basara still cares about his friends, which is why he neither harbors ill will towards them nor wants to kill them.

I didn’t expect Mio to angrily smack Takashi across the face, which gave a surprising twist.

It was enjoyable to see Mio telling Takashi to “get off his high horse” or to “take the stick out of his @$$.” I assumed that Basara was going to be nice about it or Yuki was going to be the one to smack Takashi across the face.

At least I got to see the story develop even though I don’t mind the fan service.

The episode made me think about the pain and guilt that Basara has suppressed for five years. He is obviously in the most pain because nobody else understands that the catastrophe in the village was out of his control.

It points out how heroes can be blinded by a black and white view of the world.

They obviously see Mio and Maria as evil, but they have no idea what they have experienced.
