The 2011 Record and CD Convention in Vancouver (Includes interview and first-hand account)

About 50 exhibitors brought mainly black vinyl records but music on other media was also represented.
Predominantly there was classic rock and roll, less jazz and country music. Metal, rap was less represented, there was almost neither classical music nor folk, nor other music from different countries. One exhibitor had substantial collection of vinyls with Latin American music.
Apart from music there were memorabilia related to music and concerts: posters, programs, books, tickets and T-shirts.

In previous years that kind of convention used to have more exhibitors and interested public. This year the size of this convention was smaller.
Black vinyl prices were very affordable and for any collector there was great opportunity to get almost anything. Some items were more expensive, especially the sealed ones and with big names on the cover. Traditionally the 4th album of Led Zeppelin was at the range of higher price but still not too expensive. John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Canadian Oscar Peterson or Billie Holiday were in good selection. The cheapest prices were for CDs, in many cases $1 per a single CD.

After visiting such an event there’s an unavoidable thought that although there are still collectors dedicated to have and enjoy vinyl black records, it obviously seems that the era of mp3 has taken over music media for good.
