Op-Ed: The 10 best video games of 2015

10. NBA 2k16 (PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC)

Without a doubt, NBA 2k16 is the best sports game of 2015 and a must-have for gamers. Play as your favorite player or create your own and play against your friends online. 2K Sports has added substance to a genre that has been oversaturated by EA Sports’ mediocre titles.

9. BroForce (PC)

A tribute to the run-and-gun side-scrolling games along with action films of the 80s, Broforce is a must have PC game. Players take on the role of Americas greatest but under-funded special forces unit as they liberate the world from terrorists and aliens. Liberate hot-zones by taking on the role of characters based on some of cinemas most iconic heroes only with a “Bro” pun (like Bro Dredd or The Brodock Saints).

8. Just Cause 3 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Just Cause 3 is the third game in the series that could only be described as a Michael Bay simulator. Rico Rodriguez returns to his homeland to liberate it from the tyranny of General Sebastiano Di Ravello. Explore a massive world then blow it up.

7. Resident Evil HD (PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC)

Resident Evil HD is not just a nostalgic experience for the Next-Gen consoles but a chance to play a classic that so many fans missed. Take on the role of either Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine as they try to survive the horrors of the Umbrella Corporation. Old fans now have the opportunity to play an improved version of a timeless classic while new fans will finally experience what the true concept of horror survival.

6. Bloodborne (PS4)

The creators of Dark Souls present a gritty and challenging role-playing odyssey set in a Gothic themed world. The Hunter arrives to the city of Yharnam searching for “Paleblood” only to be tasked with stopping an epidemic that has infected the populace. Gamers who enjoy survival horror along with Lovecraftian-themed stories will enjoy this RPG.

5. Grand Theft Auto V (PC Version only)

It has been a long wait for PC gamers but now they will finally have the opportunity to experience the masterpiece that did to video games what The Wire did for television drama: raise the bar to an unbelievable height. Follow the journey of three criminals seeking the American Dream in a post-2008 crash society only to be forced to do the dirty work of a corrupt government agent.

4. Super Mario Maker (Wii U)

The ideal game for anyone who has have ever played any classic Super Mario game and wanted to make their own adventure. Super Mario Maker allows players to create levels based on the classic games then share them online with friends.

3. Halo 5 (Xbox One)

One of the most highly anticipated Xbox One title and the first game in the series released for the Next-Gen consoles. After Master Chief goes AWOL in search of Cortana, Spartan Locke and his team are tasked with capturing him. It’s a journey that tells two stories while continuing one of gamings most iconic hero. Along with an improved multiplayer, Halo 5 is a must have for any Xbox gamer.

2. Fallout 4 (PS4, Xbox One and PC)

War never changes and neither does the struggles of the Wasteland. Set in what was once the great city of Boston, players take on the role of the Sole Survivor who is trying to look for his / her missing son. Players return to a Wasteland populated by familiar faces (for better or worse) along with some new ones.

1. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC)

It’s the last game in the iconic series, and Hideo Kojima has done everything possible to not only ensure that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is a masterpiece, but the first real title of the next-gen console era. Nine years after the attack on Mother Base, Big Boss has awaken from his comma and is on a quest for revenge. This desire for revenge will take him to Soviet occupied Afghanistan and the war-torn regions of central Africa.

With a memorable story along with a gameplay that pushes the series to a new high, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is truly the best game of 2015. Even though this may be the end of the series, Kojima has ensured it will be an ending that is memorable among gamers.
