Taylor Swift tells Apple to pay artists for free trials

In the letter, titled To Apple, Love Taylor, she called out the company for unfair practices.

Swift wrote about how unfair it is that artists will not be paid a dime for the music people listen to during the three months of free trials. Apple gives users a three-month free trial, but Swift said that she finds this shocking and disappointing.

Swift’s letter ended up going viral and apparently got Apple’s attention. On Sunday evening, Eddy Cue, the media boss at Apple, took to Twitter and announced that Apple would pay artists for streaming during the free trial period. He didn’t elaborate about how much Apple would pay or who would get paid.

Cue said that the singer’s letters and complaints that came in from other artists led them to change and that the CEO, Tim Cook, agreed to the move.

Cue added that he spoke with Swift and that they let her know that they heard her concerns and wanted to let her know that they were going to be making some changes.

Earlier today, after performing in Amsterdam, Swift took to Twitter and said that she was elated and relieved. She thanked her fans for the support.
