Swedish production duo ManyFew chatted about their new music, which includes their track “Back to Back.”
How did “Back to Back” come about?
We have had this idea in mind for a long time and to be working with Janne Schaffer on a track and that’s something we’ve been dreaming about! Finally things came together and we presented the initial idea for him and he really liked it, and we recorded the record just a few days after starting the conversation.
We wanted to bring something soulful and uplifting to the track and combine it with Janne’s magic on the guitar.
What inspires your music and songwriting?
We got inspired by many things in life, nature and summertime is probably where we are getting the most inspiration from. Also we still love to listen to radio and we get so much inspiration from there as well.
How did it feel to have Janne Schaffer on this track with you?
It feels surreal, to be working with Janne Schaffer is amazing, he is featured on 48 original songs by ABBA and has been working with artists such as Toto and Bob Marley to name a few and he has been doing this for over 50 years so we are very grateful to get the opportunity to be working with him.
How does it feel to be an artist in the digital age? (now with streaming, technology and social media being so prevalent)
Thanks to social media and the streaming era it’s easier than ever before to release music, but on the other side there’s so much music out there, we think social media and streaming are great ways to get your music heard in from of the right people and building your brand.
As an artist, you’ll have more control and freedom to be yourself. Technology is never going to take over the human touch of things. Instead, we think it will be a good and efficient tool to use for creating better products.
How do you use technology in your daily routine as musicians?
We’re producing using laptops only, we love to be portable and work from different environments.
When we’re working from really big studios we basically are plugging our laptops in, recording vocals and using the studio speakers. We still use all our digital plugins for producing since it’s a much faster process by doing so.
What is your advice for young and aspiring recording artists?
Try to learn from the music you love, follow your heart and stay creative. There are no rules!
What do your plans for the future include?
Continue to release lots of music and put more focus on and continue to build our record label ‘ManyFew Records’. Right now we are focusing on our own releases, but we are planning to start releasing music from other artists on the label as well.
We’re heading to Dubai now to headline a show and to continue expanding our live scene and set up global tours as ManyFew and also create international club nights with inspiration from our radio show ‘Electronic Heaven’ ; these are the main focus for us.
What does the word success mean to you?
Success means that you’re satisfied and happy with the life you’re living. From an artist perspective it’s about expressing yourself and doing your unique thing and breaking the noise on the global market. Hard work pays off and if you’re doing it with passion things will fall into place organically!
What would you like to tell our readers about “Back to Back”? (What’s the one thing you want them to get out of it)
To combine our sound together with Janne Schaffer’s unique guitar sound and blend our generations together to spread happiness. It’s kind of cool to have the same type of guitar sound on BACK TO BACK as most of the ABBA records. Hope you guys like this record as much as we do.
