Stephen Barker Liles from Love and Theft talks new album (Includes interview)

Regarding their new album, Whiskey On My Breath, Stephen said, “We are so excited about it. We were passionate about it for many reasons: We wrote every song on there and we co-produced it with Josh Leo. There are some songs are there that are fun and lighthearted, and other songs that mean something to us. It was fun to make.”

Their album garnered a rave review from Digital Journal, as did their title track lead single. “We are technically independent artists right now, and we are just pushing ‘Whiskey On My Breath.’ We have a great fan-base and our management has been good too. Things have been great. We have been writing songs every day for ourselves and for other artists. You can never have enough songs,” he said.

He listed the ballad “Everybody Drives Drunk” as his personal favorite song on the record, especially since it has nothing to do with its title. “It has many different meanings to it. Everybody has their own vices and something on their minds. It is also one of those songs that people judge it before they listen to the words, and that’s a healthy thing since it brings up a lot of good topics in a lot of good conversations,” he said.

Their album includes their own version of Martina McBride’s “Wrong Baby Wrong” and what people may not know about that song is that Love and Theft co-wrote it with The Warren Brothers. “We co-wrote that a number of years ago, and we recorded it, and it is cool that we get to play that every night and put it on our new album. People are familiar with it, and it has a totally different meaning when a guy sings it. When a girl sings it, she encourages the guy to get over his ex, and when a guy sings it, he encourages the girl to get over her ex, so that he can be the new guy,” Stephen said.
