Star Wars fans had a reason to rejoice today, as a new trailer for The Force Awakens was released. While the first trailer had a lot of scenery to chew on, it didn’t offer much beyond an ominous feeling, a forlorn-looking Storm Trooper and a cool new lightsaber.
This new trailer shows that The Force Awakens will be a family affair of sorts.
“The Force is strong in my family,” the narrator says. “My father has it. I have it. My sister has it. You have that power too.”
Cue a dramatic swell of music and in comes the action — a masked, menacing-looking, lightsaber-wielding character, the film’s protagonists outrunning danger, and plenty of space ships. It also shows some familiar droids returning, including R2D2. And right at the end, there’s a reveal of two characters from the original trilogy that will be sure to get diehards’ hearts racing.
The Verge goes in-depth for a frame-by-frame look at the almost two-minute teaser, pointing out a mysterious armoured trooper, a new logo Storm Troopers are rallying behind and the fact that someone is holding Darth Vader’s robotic skull.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens officially hits theatres on December 18.
