Sling TV is Microsoft’s answer to Sony’s Playstation Vue

In November, Sony unveiled plans for its no-contract and cloud-based TV service Playstation Vue, which is currently undergoing its closed beta test across four select cities in the United States. The first city, which is New York City, started its beta in mid-December. Selected Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 users got to participate in the beta, where they have at least 75 channels to choose from.

Xbox One isn’t going to stand there and take it, neither will subscription-TV services.

Dish Network is implementing its Internet-powered TV service called Sling TV, which will cost you $20 a month. You will not be required to enter into a contract or pay extra money for hardware installation. Sling TV will present select TV channels such as Disney Channel, TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, CNN, and more.

Playstation Vue will face serious competition with Sling TV, which will first be available on the Xbox One current-generation console.

Dish Network has plans on expanding Sling TV service to Amazon Fire TV, select Samsung & LG smart TVs, Roku, iOS devices, Android devices, Mac, and PC. It will seem likely that Sling TV will get a head start on Playstation Vue, which is concentrating on Playstation 3 & Playstation 4 consoles.

Sony has yet to give a price for the Playstation Vue monthly subscription, which has no contract. It does plan to expand to iPad after the Playstation consoles.

If you have a membership to Xbox Live Gold, you get one month of Sling TV for free.

Anybody willing to dish out an extra $5 a month will receive a kids channel pack that consists of Boomerang, Disney Jr., and Disney XD.

Sling TV, like Playstation Vue, will have a 3-day replay. If you miss certain shows, you have up to three days after broadcast to watch them.

A launch date has not been given for Sling TV, but Playstation Vue will launch in the first quarter of this year. Playstation Vue will let you watch CBS, NBC, Fox, Disovery Channel, SyFy, USA, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and more.
