As Mashable reports, the video for Sia’s “Elastic Heart,” the latest single from her 2014 album Forms of Fear, dropped Wednesday. Though simple, it also manages to be utterly bizarre.
The video is set in a cage, with actor Shia LaBeouf and 12-year-old Maddie Ziegler. LaBeouf has made strange headlines in the last few years, and appears here in nude underwear and a very heavy beard.
Ziegler, meanwhile, starred in Lifetime’s Dance Moms and was in Sia’s previous video for “Chandelier.” In this new video, she’s wearing the same outfit from “Chandelier,” only more greased up.
The video follows the two as they perform a series of dance movies, with Ziegler looking playful and LaBeouf looking either tortured or haunted. At one point LaBeouf almost does a chin-up at the top of the cage, and it soon becomes apparent that the cage is only confining for one of the two.
The video was directed by Daniel Askill (also the director of “Chandelier”). She doesn’t appear in this video, nor will she in any future works. She told NPR that she doesn’t allow herself to be photographed, and if she performs on stage she performs with her back to the audience in an effort to control the image the public has of her.
