Actor Shomari Love chatted about starring in the series “Kold & Windy,” which premiered on January 5th.
Love will next be seen in the upcoming WEtv series, which follows hip hop and drill star Malika as she works to create a better life for herself on the south side of Chicago. Love plays Dirty, a psychopathic killer and true “J-City” soldier who will do anything to protect Shelly Winter (Kaja Brielle) and their crew, even if an innocent life is taken in the process.
“It was great a learning experience,” he said. “My first time working with schedule shifts and different directors on one project.”
He was drawn to his character, Dirty, for several reasons. “Playing Dirty gave me multiple opportunities to show the thoughts of the character,” he said.
He is also no stranger to the world of film. He recently brought his talent to a lead role in the Saban Films thriller Take the Night, which is available on-demand now.
Additionally, Love wrapped production as the love interest of Jordana Brewster’s character Ruby in On Our Way. In the film, he showcases his talent as a wealthy British businessman who sweeps her off her feet while on a trip to New York.
Other credits include Maya and Her Lover where he played Kaseem, a young man that opens up a new world that challenges Maya’s introverted personality when they begin a contentious affair. The movie was nominated for the 2021 American Black Film Festival Jury Award and is streaming now on AllBlk.
On his daily motivations as an actor, he said, “The opportunity to continue to create art that may impact the lives of others.”
Love opened up about being an actor in the digital age. “There are a lot more projects being produced now. You learn to adapt and understand the different mediums art is being produced for,” he said.
Regarding his future plans, he said, “To continue to grow my craft, travel, and help others.”
He listed Denzel Washington, Forest Whitaker, Delroy Lindo, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel Jackson, and Viola Davis as his dream acting partners.
On his definition of success, he said, “Being able to wake up and do what you love. Getting paid to do it is a bonus.”
He concluded about “Kold & Windy,” “People have many different forms of expression. Once we learn to relate to them on a human level, we’ll be in a better position to understand their struggles and triumphs.”
