Actress Shell Danielson (“General Hospital” fame) chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about being a part of the inaugural Soap Con Live fan event.
Soap Con Live was co-created by Susan Eisenberg and Lacretia Lyon. She enjoyed being a part of the General Hospital “Love & Tragedy” panel, which was streamed on The Locher Room’s YouTube channel. “That was wonderful,” she exclaimed. “I was thrilled to see everyone’s faces and to catch up with Brad Maule, Jackie Zeman, and Kin Shriner, as well as to see Lacretia.”
Danielson is known for her role as Dominique Stanton in General Hospital. “Dominique was a wonderful character,” she said. “Gloria Monty had brought me in and I was originally paired with John J. York, who is such a wonderful human being and a person to work with. They segued her over with Scotty (Kin) and I was thrilled with that too. They had written an amazing love story for my character and Scotty.”
When asked how she handled being dialogue-heavy on the show, she noted that she would do the best that she could and she would write down the lines. “That way, I would know the lines inside and out and they would be a little more second nature,” she said.
For young and aspiring actors, she encouraged them to be well-rounded in all parts of the business. “Be curious about other people’s job, if you are interested in it. As a writer and an actor, watch and observe people and know their stories. That gives you a sense of understanding and empathy,” she said.
Danielson expressed her appreciation and love to the fans. “Thank you so much for loving Dominique and Scotty. Thank you for going on a journey with us and still remembering her. Thanks for holding our love story in your hearts,” she said.
Regarding the title of the current chapter of her life, she said with a sweet laugh, “To Be Continued…”
She noted that there are many different levels of success. “We have all lived many different lives. I have been able to do a little of everything that I have ever wanted to do so I am very blessed,” she said. “At the end of the day, it’s not about being a big name, it’s about being able to be creative and life a good, decent life.”
