“It’s amazing,” he said, about his experience playing the Electric Zoo main stage. “I played Electric Zoo last year, and the awesome organizers of the festival called me one month later, and asked me to play the main stage on the following year, and I said ‘absolutely.’ It was my biggest festival of the summer.”
The multi-talented artist recently released his melodic-driven song “Upsidedown” on Ultra Music. This marks the first time that he featured his own vocals on of his tracks. “It’s the record with me singing my own vocals on it,” he attested. “I am really excited about this record. I just dropped the music video for it, which was very cool and Vertigo-ish, with me floating around the room.”
His previous single “No Future” has accumulated over six million streams, and he released a live video performance of the song on the rooftop of his Los Angeles home.
Each day, he is motivates my music. “If I’m having a bad day, I definitely listen to some of my favorite records and that gets me through it. The sooner I get into the studio, the happier I am,” he said.
On his plans for the future, he said, “I have a new record ‘Addicted’ coming out that I am excited about, and I have a live video for ‘Upsidedown’.” “I am going to keep living the life,” he said.
Digital transformation of electronic dance music
Regarding the impact of technology in electronic dance music, Frank said, “I didn’t predict that streaming would change how music sounds. Spotify has transformed the way that people make records. When people used to make records for the radio, now they are trying to make records for streaming, which is really an interesting concept that a lot of artists have to wrap their minds around that, since it has really changed the whole game.”
When asked how he uses technology in his daily routine, Frank said, “I am discovering music all day on my phone. When I’m in an airport, I am listening to music on my phone. I have people sending me tracks. I am able to work on this career 24/7 because of technology.”
Frank further added, “I definitely use Instagram the most to stay in touch with everybody, but I am on Twitter. I am on all that shit.”
For aspiring DJs and producers, he said, “Wake up and do what you love. Find that sound, and do it over and over again until it’s perfect.”
Most impressive about Frank is that he co-wrote The Chainsmokers’ smash single “Closer,” their collaboration with Halsey. “It was crazy to be a part of that. It was a wild turn in my life when that happened,” he admitted. “I love those guys [The Chainsmokers], and I love all of the success that they are having.”
“Upsidedown” is available on iTunes.
