Lewis discusses the power of storytelling through dance and movement
Lewis was nominated for the 2025 Chita Rivera Award for “Outstanding Choreography in a Broadway Show,” and her lead actor Jonathan Groff was nominated for “Outstanding Dancer in a Broadway Show” for his superb portrayal of Bobby Darin.
“The power of storytelling through choreography is very much evident in our show ‘Just in Time’,” Lewis said.
“It’s a very dance forward show, and all the dance forwards the plot in some way. It’s exciting to watch but it’s also a storytelling plot moving device, so it was a dream for me to do that,” she elaborated.
On the moment in her childhood that inspired her to pursue this career, she said, “I was a Broadway dancer for 30 years, and then, I segued into choreography because it felt like the next chapter for me.”
“I use all the things I learned on stage as a performer, working with the best of the best, to segueing into my choreography role. It has really been a joy, and I am happy to have both labels on my name,” she said with a sweet laugh.
