Shana Halligan talks new album ‘Back To Me’ and ‘Something Real’ (Includes interview)

Regarding her new electro-pop single “Something Real,” Halligan said, “The record was getting really serious, and I was diving into the depth of my emotional state of craziness, so it was just a song that I wrote on whim with one of my writing partners on the album. I was travelling and I went to a nightclub in the East Coast, and all the sexiness around me was very inspiring.”

Her upcoming studio album Back To Me will be released on October 16 via Plug Research Music. “It is very exciting,” she said. “There is nothing that didn’t actually make it on the record. Everything on it was flowing, and two tracks on there are bonus tracks. They are all my babies, and it is hard to decide which ones I would kick to the curb.”

Her project was produced by Chuck Wild, the alter-ego of Los Angeles indie producer and DJ Captain Planet, and TM Juke (of Alice Russell fame), YNGCLT, and Amp Live. “It was great. We had a really easy, productive working relationship. We got right down to business and we both have a similar ear. We push each other to different directions, but it was really fluid and effortless,” Halligan said.

On her plans for the future, she said, “I am doing collaborations with other DJs, I’m starting to write for other artists, and I will keep putting out more albums. I am also doing writing for film and television.”

When asked which male artist she would love to someday collaborate with, she listed Pharrell. “I would love to hang with him,” she said.

For her fans, she concluded, “I am so appreciative of the people that followed me throughout my career. It is wonderful to see how open the fans have been. I feel like in order to evolve and grow, you need to try different things. I am grateful that people are positively responding to all of that.”
