Shaman Durek chatted about his new music, and how his faith ties into his music.

He just released his latest remix EP for his debut single “My House,” which is available on Spotify.

Who/what inspires your music and songwriting?

I love House Music and I love performing and dancing. This drives the music I make and the writing.

Can you tell us about your latest single and the story behind it?

It was a single take, freestyle performance. Mark “Blakkat” Bell my producer laid down a backing track, hit record and off I went, and it went off! The lyric is about how I feel when people are not dancing at a party and the DJ is so good.

You better dance in my house!

You didn’t come hear to sit about talking with your friends trying to look hot and all,

Where’s your respect for the music?

What do your plans for the future include? More music on the horizon?

Absolutely! It’s not a forced thing, its actually a playful exploration into the unseen. Being a shaman, music gives me a chance to re-center myself, and realize what’s really important, which is freedom of expression.

I believe It can only be found when we surrender to the bass. I believe that god is the music and the music is god

How does your faith and Shamanism tie to your music?

Shamanism is about connecting with nature, your ancestors, yourself, the food you eat, gathering and releasing, and manifesting through your tribe and individually. It’s a deep passage and music plays a huge part of the journey into the other realms. It’s a gateway into the feeling of the unseen.

A dance that crosses all borders, to me, this is in complete alignment to shamanism, and what kind of shaman would I be if I didn’t access the available resources and deliver the magic?

How does it feel to be an artist in the digital age (now with streaming and technology being so prevalent)?

You have to embrace change to grow. It’s great that anyone can make the music they want and release it everywhere.

Which artists would you like to do a dream collab with and why?

Daft Punk are on that list along with Kaytranada JPEGMAFIA, Eviltapes (from Mexico) Terence Etc, and I’d be down to duet with Los Angeles vocalist BabyGirl!

What does the word success mean to you?

Reaching the people where they are, and showing them the power that they have inside of them, to do good, be good and live great, and having the finances to support myself and the people I love.
