Latin superstar Sebastián Yatra chatted about his “Dharma” headlining tour and album.

Former U.S. Army general and former Secretary of State Colin Powell once said: “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work.” Sebastián Yatra is a man and internationally-recognized artist that epitomizes this wise quotation.

Dharma tour

Yatra opened up about his highly-anticipated “Dharma” headlining tour. “It is a show full of messages and a truly spectacular production,” he said. “I’m very proud of the team with which we have created this Dharma Tour. For this tour, I had to polish my dancing and the instruments like the guitar and the piano a lot,” he said with a laugh.

“It has been a challenge but I have loved the process because I myself supervised the musical cuts, the position of the lights, the transitions, the visuals…come on, endless details to which we have put a lot into, so I hope everyone enjoys it,” he elaborated.

‘Ulayeh’

His new Arabic and Spanish single “Ulayeh” was recently released. “Recording and writing Ulayeh for the World Cup is something that excites me a bunch because Qatar, I feel, is a fascinating country and culture,” he said.

He continued, “It was definitely a challenge for me to write a song that has that feeling and that essence of Arabic language and music, working with Nouamanae definitely takes it there in a special way, and with RedOne and also writing the song with Kaleb and Lofty on the Spanish side.”

“I think this is a song that people will be able to enjoy a lot for the World Cup, people are going to be dancing and celebrating goals to it. It all came about because TV Azteca Mexico was looking for an anthem for the World Cup and they asked me if I had something in mind, then I got in the studio and we made the song,” Yatra elaborated.

On the song selection process for his multi-platinum “Dharma” album, he explained, “‘Dharma’ is a word of Hindu origin and it´s the opposite to karma. It represents what comes to life for the things you do well; it’s a gift! Dharma symbolizes everything. It means for the artist to be able to share his music with the public.”

“Each song is a little piece of me, just like on the Dharma tour I want to share my music with my fans,” he added.

Yatra shared some of his personal favorite songs on Dharma and Dharma+. “My favorite song is ‘Quererte Bonito’,” he said. “I consider it my masterpiece. This is a song recorded in Miami completely live with Elena Rose, Julio Reyes Copelo among others. We had to record it live because of the structure of the song and the way it was played did not allow us to record it in any other way.”

“And of course ‘Tacones Rojos’ because it’s a song that has reached many corners of the world,” he added.

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, now with streaming and technology being so prevalent, Yatra remarked, “Social media is a great tool to spread the work of an artist and all his materials.”

“You have to know how to take advantage of it because if it’s used in a good way it gives a major boost to the work of an artist because no matter what level they are at, they have the ability to reach all corners of the world, not like before when they depended on local media, print, even from the physical sale records,” he elaborated.

For young and aspiring artists, Yatra stated, “My advice is to be clear about what you want, to be willing to work for what you want. It is a complicated and difficult career and they have to know that they are going to fall many times but they have to learn to get up again to follow their dreams.”

Yatra has had so many incredible collaborations thus far in his career.

Dream collaboration choices

On his dream collaboration choices, he shared, “Each collaboration that I have done in my career has been super important for me, each one has had something very special. Dream duets: Michael Bublé because he influenced me to want to be a singer, Harry Styles, and Ed Sheeran.”

Regarding his definition of the word success, Yatra revealed, “For me, success means the freedom to do what you like and be happy doing what you do.”

United Palace show in New York

On Saturday, October 8, Yatra will be performing at United Palace in New York City. “Prepare for a show like you have never seen before, it is my biggest show to date, with dancers, band, and all the crew,” he told his fans.

“This is a show where the public comes to see themselves, not me,” Yatra said with a sweet laugh.
