The medieval miniseries is based on the books written by George R. R. Martin, and the upcoming third season looks at the events occurring the third book A Storm of Swords.
The show focuses on several lords, knights and warriors who strive to be king of a fantastical land, while also handling their arduous challenges in their own community. As with almost every HBO show, Game of Thrones delivers a spectacle of gory violence, full-frontal sex and mature themes.
Game of Thrones has become so popular it was dubbed the most pirated show in 2012.
What should we expect in season three? Tywin Lannister rode to the rescue and assisted Tyrion turn back Stannis Baratheon, so the two may soon battle for the beautiful Shae. Always a reviled character, the cruel King Joffrey sits on the Iron Throne, where in previews he declares Tywin “The Savior of the City.”
Ser Loras Tyrell also helped the House of Lannister in a major battle during the second season, so the upcoming episodes should tell us if a new alliance is forged between the two houses.
Sansa Stark, to wed King Joffrey, is now on the outside looking as the young king has decided to woo the young Margaery Tyrell instead. Will Sansa finally free herself of Joffrey’s hold?
There wouldn’t be a Game of Thrones season without some dragons. Daenerys Targaryen and her three baby dragons are now on a mission to sail with her loyal Dothrakis to Westeros to take back the Iron Throne she believes is rightfully hers. The preview trailers for season three show glimpses of the dragons all grown-up and swooping down on a ship.
Fans will also follow the storyline of Arya Stark, and find out what her ally, the criminal Jaqen, gave to her at the end of the last season. Also, will she reunite with the rest of the Stark family?
“Death is coming for everyone and everything,” begins one of the season 3 trailers. Maybe so, but here’s hoping some of the living provide Game of Thrones some compelling entertainment beginning Sunday night.
