This marked his first nomination in the “Outstanding Lead Actor” category in the hit drama series, The Bold and the Beautiful. Clifton won for his portrayal of Liam Spencer, which is a character that he originated on the show. He bested some stiff competition from Peter Bergman (The Young and the Restless), Billy Flynn (Days of Our Lives), Vincent Irizarry (Days of Our Lives), as well as Kristoff St. John (The Young and the Restless).
In the past, Clifton won the Emmy award for “Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series” in 2011, as well as for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series” in 2013, in a tie with fellow actor Billy Miller (who plays Billy Abbott) from The Young and the Restless.
With his latest “Lead Actor” win, Clifton made Emmy history. At 32 years old, Clifton is the first male actor to win Emmy awards in the Younger, Supporting, and Lead categories respectively, and the second actor to do so overall. Ironically enough, the other actress that accomplished this feature is his Bold and the Beautiful co-star Heather Tom, who won her first “Outstanding Lead Actress” Emmy in 2012.
Most impressive about Clifton is that he won three Emmy awards out of nine career nominations for his acting work in three different soap operas (One Life to Live, The Bold and the Beautiful and General Hospital).
