Sam Moore, ‘The Soul Man,’ headed to Georgia Music Hall of Fame‏

He is headed for induction into the coveted Georgia Music Hall of Fame, just in time for his 80th birthday in October. His illustrious career in music has spanned over six decades, and he is known for such hit singles as “Hold On I’m Coming” and “I Thank You.” He will be joining singer-songwriter Gregg Allman (of The Allman Brothers Band), composer John Barbe and his wife, Jane, as well as producer John Huie, among many others.

Moore’s induction ceremony will take place on September 26 in Atlanta, Georgia. He is also known as the lead voice from the 60s duo, “Sam and Dave,” which was a musical collaboration with his long-time partner and fellow Georgia native Dave Prater.

The soul duo recorded and performed together for over two decades and they produced many albums. In 1967, Moore co-wrote “Soul Man,” which Sam and Dave would record later that year, and it would subsequently become their signature song.

In 1992, Moore was inducted into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which is perhaps the greatest honor in the music industry. He also received honored from the Vocal Music Hall of Fame, the Grammy Hall of Fame, as well as the Rhythm and Blues Foundation.

Last summer, he honored his late friend, country king George Jones, with “Jesus & Jones,” a collaboration with bluegrass band Nu-Blu.
