Actor Ryan Rosery (“Batwoman”) chatted about being a part of the movie “Fear Street: Prom Queen,” which premiered on May 23rd on Netflix.
The synopsis is: Prom at Shadyside High is underway and the school’s It Girls are busy jockeying for the crown. But when the candidates start to disappear, a gutsy outsider learns she’s in for one hell of a prom night.
How was “Fear Street: Prom Queen” for you?
It was such a fun experience for me getting the opportunity to play a high school student in the ’80s with the wardrobe and music plus having that slasher-horror element made it even more riveting.
What did you like most about your character Chad?
I liked that he had his group of friends that got him through his high school experience.
Being part of the popular group and a star athlete was also a bonus. He’s also a bit more complex than he lets on.
What do your plans for the future include?
Some future plans for me include finishing a short film script that I have been sitting on for the last few months.
Also, promoting “It Comes In Waves,” an indie feature film that I had the pleasure of acting in as well as co-producing along with my production company, BDB Productions Inc.
It will have its world premiere at the American Black Film Festival from June 11 to 15, 2025.
How does it feel to be an actor in the digital age? (Now with streaming, technology and social media being so prevalent)
It’s different than it was so many years ago but things like social media is a tool to be used that can help connect me with so many different people in ways I never could have done prior.
Streaming garners a plethora of opportunities for actors to work on various projects they wouldn’t normally have had the chance to. All I see are opportunities and possibilities.
Were there any moments in your career that have helped define you?
I remember my first big role I had gotten close to and not getting it. It was a reminder that there will be a lot of roles that I won’t get but to continue forward and just work on myself and eventually something will stick.
Being prepared for when the opportunity comes is the best thing to do.
What is your advice for young and emerging actors?
Study the craft, learn yourself, live life and really love acting. Don’t focus on being famous but focus on being one percent better every day for yourself.
Find like-minded individuals you can go on this journey with together because doing it alone is a challenge.
What does the word success mean to you?
Success to me means freedom. What I mean by that is to have the free time to spend with my family and loved ones.
Time to take a trip somewhere and enjoy the fruits of my labor. To be able to have new fulfilling life experiences.
What would you like to tell our readers about “Fear Street: Prom Queen”? (What’s the one thing you want them to get out of it?)
I want everyone to check it out May 23 on Netflix and to allow themselves to get as much enjoyment watching it as I had filming and being part of it.
