Actor Ryan McPartlin (“Chuck” and “Passions”) chatted about his latest films, which include “A Very Vermont Christmas,” “Amish Affair,” and “Wallbanger.”
McPartlin is known for playing Devon “Captain Awesome” Woodcomb in the action-comedy series “Chuck,” as well as Hank Bennett on the ’00s daytime drama “Passions.”
‘A Very Vermont Christmas’
On July 20th, his new holiday film “A Very Vermont Christmas” will premiere on Hallmark. “I hope everybody tunes in to see this because it was a lot of fun making it,” he said. “In this moment in time, I hope they sit back and relax, enjoy and just forgot all the stress that is going on in the world.”
“I was an executive producer on it too. We were able to shape it up and make it something more elevated,” he observed.
“It was great,” he exclaimed. “I loved working with Katie Leclerc, and John Stimpson, our director. Katie was just wonderful. After it was a long strike, it was nice to get back with a good group of people and film some feel-good TV. These days, we need more levity and love.”
“At the end of the day, we were able to create something very heartwarming,” he added. “I hope people remember that love happens all the time; it’s all around us.”
Andrew Walker
McPartlin also had great words about Hallmark star Andrew Walker. “I love Andrew Walker, he is a great dude. I need to figure out how I can get into his ‘Three Wise Men’ series and make it four wise men,” he said.
“I can be the guy who breaks the band up,” he said with a sweet laugh.
‘Amish Affair’
McPartlin also stars as Aaron, the male lead in “Amish Affair” on Lifetime. “I was a producer on this movie too,” he admitted. “This is an opportunity to play something different than I normally do because I am always known as the good guy or the heartwarming dude.”
The synopsis is: Hannah (Mackenzie Cardwell) moves in with a charismatic Amish leader, Aaron (Ryan McPartlin), to help with his ailing wife.
Seeking refuge after leaving her Amish community, Hannah is grateful to Aaron and his wife for opening their home to her and giving her work but as she tends to her household chores, the spark between her and Aaron is undeniable.
Hannah knows their secret relationship has them both living in sin, so she decides to end it but when Aaron’s wife suspiciously dies, she finds herself framed for murder and fighting to prove her innocence.
“I wanted to take a look at this character and what motivated him,” he said. “People in life get motivated by love and religion in the worst possible way, and then, they feel they are right. So, I examined it from that point of view. I couldn’t be despicable for the sake of being despicable.”
“I felt that Aaron probably started out with the right intentions, and thought that God created the circumstances around him to bring him a male heir to continue his business, so we got to explore the humanity of that,” he said.
‘Wallbanger’ on Passionflix
“I just popped in as a little cameo in that movie,” he said. “I did that just for fun. I go back a long way with Tosca Musk; I think she is wonderful, and I am so excited for what she is doing with Passionflix.”
Plate Therapy
McPartlin shared that he loves being a part of Plate Therapy, which he co-founded with his wife Danielle.
“Plate Therapy is our business,” he exclaimed. “Not only am I one of the co-founders (with my wife), I am also the Chief Taste Taster of Plate Therapy.”
Future projects
On his plans for the future, he said, “Lately, I have a new show that is in development. I am executive producing it, and I am always creating new things.”
