Actor Russell Thomas chatted about the Season 5 finale of “The Oval” on BET.
Thomas plays the role of Vice President Eli. The hit BET primetime drama “The Oval” was created, written, executive produced, and directed by Tyler Perry.
Season 5 finale
“I am very excited for the finale of ‘The Oval’,” he said. “We put a lot of work into the season, and I am looking forward to seeing how the fans respond to it. I hope they love it. We are always happy to put on a show for the fans.”
“It has been a while since we filmed those episodes, and I want to see how it turned out,” he noted. “It will be interesting because Simone and Victoria will be in the same room as my character, Eli. It will be fun to see how it turns out and how it looks. That’ll be fun. In a way, I will be seeing it for the first time.”
Working with Tyler Perry
“With Tyler Perry at the helm, we work very quickly and very efficiently,” he acknowledged.
“The network loves the show, and the fans are happy, so that’s all that matters to me,” he acknowledged.
While he hasn’t been asked yet, Thomas noted that he would love to do a crossover appearance (with his character) in one of the other Tyler Perry shows on BET such as “Ruthless.” “I would be happy to do it,” he admitted. “That would be a fun little mix-up between the two storylines,” he said with a sweet laugh.
Bill Barrett
Thomas had great words about actor Bill Barrett, who plays Secret Service Agent Max Carter. “I love Bill. He was one of the very first actors I met when I first joined the show,” he exclaimed.
Favorite mottos to live by
His favorite motto to live by is one by two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington: “Just because you are doing a lot more doesn’t mean you are getting a lot done. Don’t confuse movement with progress.” “Coming from Denzel Washington, this quote has meant a lot to me,” he said.
Stage of his life
On the title of the current chapter of his life, Thomas said, “Transitions.” “I am definitely in transitions,” he said.
Success
Regarding his definition of the word success, Thomas said, “Being a part of a tradition of storytelling that fans and audience members can connect to. That’s really what we do it for. We do it for the fans, and ‘The Oval’ has amazing fans. At the end of the day, that’s what makes it all worthwhile.”
