This marks their second career nomination, for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They were previously nominated in 2012; moreover, Chaka Khan was also nominated in 2015 as a solo artist for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rufus’ music has been eligible for induction since 1999.
Most impressive about Rufus and Chaka Khan is that they represented the freedom, raw sexuality of funk, as well as the racial and social integration at the heart of rock and roll. Khan, whose music career has spanned over 50 years, is affectionately known as the “Queen of Funk,” and her mantel holds 10 Grammy awards.
The musicians from Rufus that are eligible for induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (upon receiving the most votes) will include: Dennis Belfield, Al Ciner, Andre Fisher, Tony Maiden, Kevin Murphy, Ron Stockert, Bobby Watson, Willie Weeks, David Wolinski and Chaka Khan herself.
Back in May of 2017, Chaka Khan performed at the St. George Theater in Staten Island, New York, where Digital Journal reviewed her concert, where she performed her Rufus hits, including “Ain’t Nobody.”
