Actor Ronen Rubinstein (“9-1-1: Lone Star”) and his band members Rodrigo R. Rodarte and Jonny Shoer chatted about their music with their band Nights In Stereo.
The silver lining for all of them during the pandemic was starting the band Nights In Stereo. “That was definitely the best part,” they concurred. “For me, personally, it was the most time that I got to spend with my partner, Jessica [Parker Kennedy],” Rubinstein added.
Music and inspirations
On their music and songwriting inspirations, Rodarte said, “Jonny and I have been making music for a really long time. We live together, we met at a bar and we developed a closeness from friendship, as well as writing music all the time and waking up and jamming.”
“Our music tastes are very similar and very different at the same time,” Rubinstein said. “It is kind of nice. Jonny has introduced me to some of my favorite bands of all time such as The War on Drugs. I learned a lot of new music from them and I was inspired by a lot of it, and we infused that into our music. You can definitely hear a lot of influences in our music, it is definitely a melting pot.”
“I think we are inspired by the things that we love, whether it’s music or TV and movies. Most of our conversations are about what we love. That’s what makes it fun,” Shoer added.
“We really want to make music that we grew up listening to, especially in the rock genre. I feel it’s not being talked about or being made anymore, it’s kind of sad. If we can make it, then that would be really exciting,” Rubinstein said.
They revealed that Jonny Shoer was responsible for coming up with the name of the band.
In the dream collaboration department, Nights In Stereo noted that they would like to work with such artists as Kings of Leon, Warpaint, Ozzy Osbourne, Kacey Musgraves, and the late Prince. “Also, Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’ is in my Top 10 records,” Shoer said.
Their goal is definitely to go out and perform live. “We need to release an LP first and then we will hit the road,” Rubinstein said.
Earlier today, Rubinstein participated in a virtual fan event for Spectrum Celebrity Events, which benefits True Colors United. “It was great. It was a few hours long, the fans are super sweet and the guys that organized it are amazing,” he said.
If Rubinstein were to go on “The Masked Singer,” he shared that he would dress up as “a gigantic bumblebee.”
On the title of the current chapter of his life, Rubinstein said, “Solid.” “Everything feels really solid right now across the board,” Rubinstein admitted.
During the pandemic, Rodarte learned how to make his own pasta, Shoer managed to produce demos and get his gear to work, while Rubinstein enhanced his ability to write songs. “I have to thank Jonny for teaching me what song structure is,” Rubinstein admitted.
Success
Regarding his definition of the word success, Rubinstein said, “Being happy with what you do and the people that you have in your life.” ‘I get to do what I love, which is crazy, and I know how fortunate I am to be able to do that. I am very lucky and fortunate. Also, to make music with my two best friends is very special,” he said.
“We all have jobs and we do the music together. The fact that everything that we do allows us to do things that we love and want to do is success,” Rodarte added.
“Success is having security,” Shoer said. “Also, not worrying about shady people in your group or over-drafting your bank account.”
