Robin Taylor Zander chatted about his new solo music, and he shared that he takes cues from his father, veteran rock musician Robin Zander.

‘All She Wrote’ single

On his new single “All She Wrote,” he said, “It is just one of many in a new batch of songs I’ve been working on.”

“A lot of the music on the new record is going to be different than the first release. I feel like it’s hopeful music with a lot of uncertain feelings behind the lyrics,” he added.

Music and songwriting inspirations

On his music and songwriting inspirations, Zander said, “I’m mostly inspired by my record collection and any new artists that I come across online.”

“The good thing about technology nowadays is that music is so accessible, there’s no excuse for you as a listener to not find something that’s new and different. If you’re able to escape the algorithms, there’s a lot of great new music to be had,” he elaborated.

Future plans

On his future plans, he shared, “I plan on releasing the second LP in a few months, luckily I have a lot of material right now so I plan on doing more records next year as well as tour support for the new releases.”

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, he said, “It is really exciting and terrifying at the same time. It’s easier now more than ever to get your music out there, but artists are also having to play the social media game to gain an audience.”

“I believe the popularity contest aspect of music promotion on social media platforms is what terrifies me the most,” he noted.

“I come from the old school way of doing things but I’m a young artist, so I try to marry the two together as best as I can,” he added.

Taking cues from Cheap Trick

He shared that he takes cues from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group Cheap Trick, where he father Robin Zander is the lead singer and rhythm guitar player.

“Growing up, there was a lot influence watching my father’s band perform live, for sure,” he admitted.

“Cheap Trick was still on top of their game when I got to see them in the ’90s as a kid. I get a lot of my musical tastes and influences from his record collection,” he added.

Closing thoughts on ‘All She Wrote’

For fans and listeners, he stated, “I hope listeners can relate to the music in their own way.”

“I don’t believe in telling people what everything means lyrically because it loses its appeal and quite frankly its mystique,” he noted.

“I have a lot of pride in recording this song along with the rest of the album, everything you hear on the record is me. It’s as me as it gets, and it’s an honest representation of where I’m at currently in my life,” he concluded.
