Actor Roberto Sanchez chatted about being a part of the new comedy series “Mrs. American Pie” on Apple TV+.
“It was an incredible experience working on this series,” he said. “The opportunity to work with such a talented cast like Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Kristen Wiig, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, and the incomparable Carol Burnett has been one of the highlights of my career.”
On his daily motivations as an actor, Sanchez said, “Without sounding cliche, as an actor, you are always searching for interesting and challenging roles. I try not to play the stereotypical ones when possible but when I do, I try to find something unique and relatable in that character that perhaps makes him more interesting. That’s where the fun lies. Doing the discovery work that all actors love.”
Sanchez opened up about being an actor in the digital age. “I think it’s a great time to be an actor or a performer of any type. Just about every person out there owns a cell phone. These cell phones come with phenomenal cameras, so we no longer have excuses as to why we can’t create our own content,” he said.
“Look at how many people have been discovered by putting videos up on Tik Tok or Instagram or any of the hundreds of social media platforms out there. With all the different streaming platforms, you now have more avenues to use to pitch your projects or your ideas. I believe it’s a great time for performers,” he elaborated.
Regarding his future plans, he said, “I think it’s to do a better job of enjoying the moments, the process. Too many times we get caught up with the hustle and grind, getting that next gig that we don’t take a moment to take it in, breathe, and be grateful.”
“More important than that, is to spend more time with family and friends. You have to periodically recharge that battery so that you don’t get burned out,” he added.
When asked about his dream acting partners, Sanchez responded, “There are so many actors out there that I would love to share a scene with but for me, it starts and ends with Javier Bardem. If you have seen his work on ‘Before Night Falls’ or ‘Biutiful,’ you understand why.”
On his definition of success, Sanchez said, “I believe success means different things to different people. For me, it’s to do what you love. Find what gives you passion and joy … and go after it. That is being successful.
“It’s not about the fame or money for me. It’s being able to live blissfully in this thing we call life. Empty your tank! When that day comes, be able to say… I tried and did it all. I emptied my tank. That is a successful life,” he explained.
He concluded about “Mrs. American Pie, “Trust me when I tell you, you are going to love it. It is a hilariously written script, performed by some truly talented people. You will love it.”
